Meltdown

halfpenny_wayne Be warned, there is a darkness at the heart of this album. To me it speaks to the bleakness and sickness of the human condition, howls its message at the turbulent sea, a bible opened forever at Revelations as the world, real or imagined, crumbles. Deeply personal and oblique this is one to return to and wonder at the meaning carved into the lyrics. A little work on behalf of the listener justifies a trove of rewards. Also, be sure to check out the video for “Vultures” on YouTube. Favorite track: Keys.

See Saw 04:15
All around me, all around Taking places, all around me All around me, all around Trading faces, washing over me Well you left me, where you found me All around me, it cuts both ways And if you found me, all around Will you leave me, where you found me Well you left me, where you found me One of us will, will always leave A see saw, turning on me Cut me off, all around me Thought it was a tidal wave, of the singing sea Was it always singing, to hide what it could see Thought it was a tidal wave, of the singing sea Was it singing, to hide what, what it would Be there, when you come back Can you see it, on your lap? All around me, all around me Trading places, all around me And when you left me, where you found me One of us will, will always leave A see saw, turning on me Cut me down, like a fallen tree Thought it was a tidal wave, of the singing sea Was it always singing, to hide what it could see Thought it was a tidal wave, of the singing sea Was it singing Thought it was a tidal wave, of the singing sea Was it always singing, to hide what it could see Thought it was a tidal wave, of the singing sea Was it singing, to hide What it could see

Vultures 03:48
You stand where you dig, you dig away There are so many things, that’ll never be the same And everybody searches, satellites in the sky Everybody searches, for those failed reasons why I gotcha Where I found you I gotcha Where I want you Saw a howl cross a wire, a howl that tries to connect Skyscrapers soared where, slums they once slept How come did I wonder, where did I wander and go I gotcha you, where I found you And there are vultures in the sky They live on a lake of fire A nursing home of denials We live on a lake of fire Typewriters bend, smashing on theirs keys Held somewhere unnoticed, fingers moving so secretly And do birds of a feather, really have a clone Substance yourself in the warmth of the weft And there are vultures in the sky They live on a lake of fire My country of denials We live on a lake of fire You’re, rope ragged at the edge, like black melodies Dropping like a grenade, to our sideshow social feeds Silent baritones in the dark, ringing in my ears And if these walls could talk, would they sing or would there be tears And there are vultures, in the sky They live on a lake of fire My country, of denials We live on a lake of fire Lake of fire
3.
DestroyHer 03:22
Little by little, you tend to get a little lost If you want a mother, or a father, glue back their divorce And there is violence, in the silence, of the dark Safety nets will cover us, but they will never last They will never last De-stroy-her Destroy the boys who destroyed her Be the weak, the commander and the chief To destroy, to destroy her Lighting up the sky’s, with all these peaceful bombs An oceans and a lighthouse, keep each other stable and calm We hardly scratched the surface, just the skin of ourselves You mean something to someone, but you mean nothing else De-stroy-her Destroy the boys who destroyed her Be the weak, the commander and the chief To, destroy, to destroy her To, destroy, to destroy her To, destroy, to destroy her To, destroy, to destroy her
4.
One more time, one more time to go And in that moment, will we really know That they are the one that you now call home That was hidden, inside familiar clothes You’ve got to care for somebody, a body you can never see You got to care for it, even if its doesn’t care for me This world can still be beautiful, it just needs to try One by one we get better, one day at a time Remember when you found them, and they blinded you like the sun Sifting through all those, awkward silences My eyes are raining signs, you’re the only one they draw Do you need another or have you found the one that made you fall When your heart is a mixture, of doubt and collapse When you see your spark, fading on the map Look into those eyes that stole you and now stare back And in one moment things happen, and you never can plan for that And all, my old ways, have been thrown, and buried in the yard When you wait your whole life, waiting here for them When you’ve found the one that you really want Remember when we crawled, walked or maybe run One more time is what you want, when you’ve found the one One more time is what you want, when you’ve found the one To lay there and realize, they’re the only one And in that moment of you and them, and so on One more time is what you want, when you found the one

Light of the glow, standing there in your perfect robes In the light, of the glow, standing there in your perfect robes And the wall is a coming, media says something, its OK to slaughter someone body else’s kids Always drowning something, then they keep a humming, a lack of witnesses Colonize suffocate, raid the raiders keep on wandering away And if you’ve seen what you’ve seen, was it through someone else’s eyes, a screen And the kingdom keeps a pumping, heads keep a thumping, And if you don’t see it, then it can’t be a wake Stop speaking in tongues, light as a feather, there’s a lack of choices to make In the light, of the glow, standing there in your perfect robes In the timing, don’t you know, standing there in them perfect robes In the tied, of the tow, drowning on the ocean floor And the daggers, that they stow, waiting for their friends, not to know In the light, of the glow, standing there in your perfect robes In the timing, don’t you know, standing there in them perfect robes and Row, row, row, row, row your boat, gently down the river Row, row, row, row, row your boat, I forgive ya In the light, of the glow, standing there in your perfect robes In the timing, don’t you know, standing there in them perfect robes In the fighting, in the throws, always standing there and I got to go In the timing, don’t you know, standing there in them perfect robes and Row, row, row, row, row your boat, gently down the river Row, row, row, row, row your boat, I forgive ya I don’t know, know, know, know, know, know what’s with you Row, row, row, row, row your boat, gently down the river

Wire 04:23
Collect all the stars that fall from the sky An apple for an eye, and a heart on the mend And did you worry, about a birthday cake That came too late, still gave you a surprise Well I don’t know How this goes But it stays the course And moves real slow And we’ll see What will be We constructed our Own blackened sea And will the sun, shine down on me again And all my friends, that live in my head And will the sun, shine down on me again And all the things, I have not seen yet Like a web, woven around a tongue Candle burnt to the stub, and a secret surprise Is life full of pain and woe It resonates and glows, but still we’re paralyzed Well we’ll see If it’s meant for me And all these words Seem to be believed Lets pretend When strangers become friends A mental note Under house arrest And will the sun, shine down on me again And all my friends, that live in my head And will the sun, shine down on me again And all the things I have not seen yet If we’re like a bird on a wire Sometimes we have to fall A baited breathe, forest fires Missing all their lonely chords And will the sun, shine down on me again And all my friends, that live in my head And will the sun, shine down on me again And all the things I have not seen yet

Well we marched in deaths parade We were uncertain where to lay the blame We have come to accept we’ll fade As we returned and turned to you Close your eyes, to the lies, lies, lies, lies, lies And impossible dreams Just before we woke We dreamt of other places to go We have built hurt out of homes As we returned and turned to you Close your eyes, to the lies, lies, lies, lies, lies Impossible dreams All your sons and daughters will burn to death And what will you do in the end Will you close your eyes and pretend That there is no future here When your faults have become your fears And it’s a sweetness to our ears As you take so long to reappear All your sons and daughters will burn to death And what will you do in the end Will you close your eyes and pretend Your sons and daughters All your sons and daughters will burn to death And what will you do in the end Will you close your eyes and pretend

Dawned 03:25
Why don’t you rest those weary thoughts inside your head I know I use to be asleep, but I’ll lay her for a while The best part of me is the part that’s all you And if you leave will you take the best part with you And did the dawn, finally wake up Did the dawn wake up, when it dawned on me They say you’re a shooting star, I think you’re more like a grave They say you’ll go far, if you never come back this way Well coyotes of the canyons are living on the pension Feeding off their smorgasbord of their smothered joy And when the ache is gone, you dismiss where you belong You had me dead to rights, a portrait, a play And did the dawn, finally wake up Did the dawn wake up, when it dawned on me They say you’re a shooting star, I think you’re more like a grave They say you’ll go far, if you never come back this way And how does it feel to get so shattered And how does it feel to be so thrown away And could you relax in all that matters And still believe it was worth the wait And did the dawn, finally wake up Did the dawn wake up, when it dawned on me They say you’re a shooting star, I think you’re more like a grave They say you’ll go far, if you never come back this way

Keys 02:40
The robes we wear so secretly Do you collect such childish things No one ever sees you, we’re all suspects Glued back together, but we’re still broken Oh lord, what have I done When I was found, I was hit and run All these pictures, framed on the wall Of people I don’t speak to anymore And if I lye awake and the ceiling was all stars If you’re gonna run, then you’d better run now Butterfly lands on a chainsaws wheel You can blame other people, but it won’t change a thing Oh lord, what have I done When I was found, I was hit and run All these pictures, framed on the wall Of people I don’t speak to anymore A walking, pharmacy on legs Skeletons and victims, of my shipwreck The things you need, aren’t the things you’ll miss A walking, pharmacy on legs A walking, pharmacy on legs Skeletons and victims, of my shipwreck Pretend, Again

Ryas 04:42
I know why the birds sing They are ravenous, distant, they are killers I know why the birds sing They are weary, and wise, leave nothing to chance When it breaks like a bone The promises, deployment, that’ll drain your blood No need to hide you’re a bridge without a side A shadow, fabricated, burned to the ground Cause they’re rising up Rising up Rising up And they still won’t say a thing And the first superstar was Jesus Christ, his cross was the best, Type of merchandise, prayers invent anything And as you lay in this hospital bed, waiting for someone to give you head If you don’t move, you’ll soon be dead, well that’s what they said Cause they’re rising up Rising up Rising up And they still won’t, say a thing Its, getting crowded, in the city And we’ve run out, of things to say And all my worries, have turned into rivers I’ve seen the mountain, it’s never shown me the way

Stringers 03:28
Dip your toe in, the, whirlpool Dripping from the, morning frost Keep it together on wings of Tasers Dripping from the morning frost There are stringers trying to be winners Your reasons float on the seas There are families trying to be fantasies There is the homeless that no one ever sees Cities are skeletons, of souls barely breathing The debt they feel with every buy And if you leave, the endless, possibilities The door is locked but you can try There are stringers, trying to be winners Your reasons, float on the seas There are families, trying to be fantasies There is the homeless that no one ever sees
12.
Well your eyes, use to have meaning, now they’ve turned, inside out Drifting, you become a whisper, that use to be, be a sound Let it spill, out of your lungs, and fill, up your mind And when, your not drifting, no whisper, is left behind Cause we’re, all in, this together We’re, all in, this together You can hear the seasons changing, in one, single chord Running from a dream, delays, growing old Cause we’re, all in, this together We’re, all in, this together Cause we’re, all in, this together Yeah we’re, all in this, together And the higher up the mountain, piece by piece, the steeper the path What, you take away, you leave behind it’s the cloud, that will never pass Cause we’re, all in, this together Yeah we’re, all in this, together Yeah we’re, all in this Yeah we’re, all in this Yeah we’re all in this, together
