lyrics
All around me, all around
Taking places, all around me
All around me, all around
Trading faces, washing over me
Well you left me, where you found me
All around me, it cuts both ways
And if you found me, all around
Will you leave me, where you found me
Well you left me, where you found me
One of us will, will always leave
A see saw, turning on me
Cut me off, all around me
Thought it was a tidal wave, of the singing sea
Was it always singing, to hide what it could see
Thought it was a tidal wave, of the singing sea
Was it singing, to hide what, what it would
Be there, when you come back
Can you see it, on your lap?
All around me, all around me
Trading places, all around me
And when you left me, where you found me
One of us will, will always leave
A see saw, turning on me
Cut me down, like a fallen tree
Thought it was a tidal wave, of the singing sea
Was it always singing, to hide what it could see
Thought it was a tidal wave, of the singing sea
Was it singing
Thought it was a tidal wave, of the singing sea
Was it always singing, to hide what it could see
Thought it was a tidal wave, of the singing sea
Was it singing, to hide
What it could see

This is SS achieving some kind of pinnacle trajectory. Their best sounding record by some margin and easily their most accomplished. The commitment in their delivery is breathtaking; Epic is the word i would use to sum it all up. Everything functions to drive these fantastic songs home. Some of Kyle's finest work, too. Try the one two sucker punch of the album openers if you ever needed convincing. Recorded in 14 hours but an album for a lifetime halfpenny_wayne
In some ways this is a more homogeneous listen than it's predecessor. When it kicks, it kicks like a mule, like opener "Horses". Suicide Swans are remarkably consistent - Kyle's writing still mines below the surface digging out gold from the clay of the every day. Performances are fantastic with the usual sympathetic production. Another superb record! halfpenny_wayne
The Australian folk-pop singer tackles deconstruction, her Christian childhood, and sexuality on her infectious sophomore album. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 14, 2023
On this debut by Maple Glider, a moniker of singer Tori Zietsch, acoustic guitar and piano chords back vignette-like songs. Bandcamp New & Notable Jun 25, 2021
The latest LP from Brigid Mae Power is gorgeous and ghostly, setting Power’s voice against soft brushes of guitar, piano, & shuffling drums. Bandcamp New & Notable Feb 17, 2018
If you dig The Drive-By Truckers you will go nuts for these dudes. Kyle’s song writing is first class, erudite, deep and thoughtful, lyrics tinged with a darkness and a cynicism derived from living and knowing too much. Great singing and picking all round. Sterling production by Ben Lancaster (get the vinyl if you can). A personal favourite from a stellar catalogue. halfpenny_wayne
